Chennai, May 17, 2026: Rajinikanth Breaks Silence and firmly denied any attempt to broker a deal between DMK and AIADMK following the Tamil Nadu hung assembly elections.
Superstar Rajinikanth on Saturday strongly rejected rumours that he tried to broker a political deal between the DMK and AIADMK. Speaking to reporters at his Poes Garden residence in Chennai, he clarified that his recent meeting with M.K. Stalin was purely a personal visit between long-time friends.
“I am not a person who would stoop so low. I did not try to broker any deal between DMK and AIADMK,” Rajinikanth said.
He explained that he met DMK president and former Chief Minister M.K. Stalin because the latter had lost his Kolathur seat in the elections. “We have been personal friends for 35 to 40 years. I went to meet him only as a friend. That’s all,” he added.
Rajinikanth Breaks Silence And Dismisses Jealousy Rumours
Rajinikanth also rubbished suggestions that he was jealous of newly sworn-in Chief Minister Vijay’s success.
“There is a 20-25 year generation gap between us. Why would I be jealous? Vijay has achieved something even bigger than NTR and MGR in his very first attempt. He fought against both the major Dravidian parties and the Centre. He deserves full credit,” Rajinikanth said.
He urged everyone to give Vijay time to perform. “Let him work for at least two years. Only then can we judge his performance,” he added.

Background of the Political Drama
The 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections delivered a surprise hung assembly. No single alliance got a clear majority. Vijay’s newly formed party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), emerged as the single largest party. With support from Congress, VCK, and Left parties, TVK formed the government. This result ended the long dominance of DMK and AIADMK in the state.
In the days after the results, intense rumours spread about secret talks and possible post-poll alliances between DMK and AIADMK to prevent Vijay from becoming Chief Minister. Rajinikanth’s name was dragged into these rumours because of his known friendship with Stalin.
With his clear and strong denial on Saturday, Rajinikanth has distanced himself from the political speculation. The veteran actor, who once floated the Rajini Makkal Mandram but later stayed away from active politics, said he has no political ambitions at present.
Rajinikanth’s statement comes at a time when Tamil Nadu is witnessing a major political shift. His clarification helps calm unnecessary rumours and allows focus to shift back to the new government led by Chief Minister Vijay.
