Rahul Gandhi Accuses Modi of Striking: ‘A Deal for Adani’s Immunity’
New Delhi, May 16: In a fierce political attack, Congress leader and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi has alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi struck an Adani Immunity Deal with the United States, claiming the India-US Trade Deal was finalized to shield industrialist Gautam Adani from a major fraud case.

The sensational charge comes shortly after a phone conversation between Modi and US President Donald Trump, following which progress on the long-pending India US Trade Deal suddenly gained momentum. Rahul Gandhi directly accused the Prime Minister of compromising national interest for Adani’s immunity.
“The Prime Minister, having already compromised, did not strike a trade deal; rather, he brokered a deal for Adani’s immunity,” Rahul Gandhi said.
The allegations by Rahul Gandhi Adani row have intensified after the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) reached a settlement with the Adani Group on Thursday. As part of the Adani SEC Settlement, Gautam Adani agreed to pay $6 million while his nephew Sagar Adani agreed to pay $12 million — without admitting any wrongdoing. Reports suggest the US Department of Justice is also planning to drop the remaining charges against the group.

The original Adani US Fraud Case had accused the conglomerate of concealing $265 million in alleged bribes paid to secure a solar power contract in India while raising funds from American investors.
On Friday, the Commerce Ministry confirmed that a US delegation will visit Delhi next month to discuss the India US Trade Deal. Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agarwal stated, “India is waiting for the right time to implement the trade agreement with the US.”
Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said the developments clearly expose the real reason behind the agreement. “It is now evident why the Prime Minister had accepted a ‘one-sided’ trade agreement with the US. How many more compromises will the Prime Minister make in this Modi Adani Deal?”
Adani’s US Legal & Investment Moves
The Adani Group had hired Robert J. Giuffra Jr., a lawyer with close ties to President Donald Trump, to represent them in the US cases. The group has also pledged to invest $10 billion in the United States, a move expected to create 15,000 American jobs. Congress has alleged that this massive investment may be funded by borrowing nearly ₹95,000 crore from Indian domestic banks.
