New Delhi — Iran’s top diplomat Abbas Araghchi declared at the BRICS foreign ministers’ meeting that no military solution exists for any matter related to Iran, while urging member nations to strongly condemn what he described as US and Israeli violations of international law.
Speaking on Thursday during the high-profile gathering in India’s capital, Araghchi emphasized that Iran remains committed to both diplomacy and strong defense, but will never bow to pressure or threats. His remarks came amid ongoing regional tensions following recent military confrontations involving Iran, the United States, and Israel.
Strong Diplomatic Push at BRICS Summit
In his address, the Iranian Foreign Minister called on BRICS countries to take a clear stand against what Tehran views as unlawful aggression. He highlighted the importance of multilateral cooperation in building a just global order and criticized the politicization of international institutions.
Araghchi also directly addressed navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, stating that the vital waterway remains open to all commercial vessels. However, he stressed that ships must cooperate with Iranian naval forces. He noted that the strait is currently suffering more from what he called US-imposed restrictions than any other factor.
India’s Foreign Minister, who hosted the meeting, separately underlined that free passage through the Strait of Hormuz is critical for the global economy.
Accusations Against UAE Spark Tension
A notable moment during the summit was Iran’s pointed criticism of a fellow BRICS member. While Araghchi avoided naming the country in his main speech to preserve unity, he later explicitly accused the United Arab Emirates of direct involvement in military operations against Iran.
Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi reinforced this position without naming the UAE, saying one neighboring BRICS member had provided its territory to “aggressors” and failed to show solidarity during the recent conflict.
These exchanges occurred in the same room, marking a rare public clash between Iranian and Emirati officials since the escalation of hostilities earlier this year.
Context of the BRICS Meeting
The two-day BRICS foreign ministers’ meeting in New Delhi has been dominated by the fallout from the US-Israel-Iran conflict and related regional instability. Iran is using the platform to rally support among emerging economies and push back against what it calls Western impunity.
Araghchi’s participation, including a bilateral meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, signals Iran’s continued efforts to strengthen ties within the expanded BRICS bloc despite international pressures.
