Kolkata, May 13, 2026: In a big decision after the West Bengal Election Defeat, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has taken strong action. The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has fully restructured TMC IT Cell. The old committee has been dissolved and a new six-member Core Committee has been formed to strengthen the party’s social media strategy.
This important meeting was held at Mamata Banerjee’s residence in Kalighat. All India Trinamool Congress General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee also attended the meeting. Young leaders Debangshu Bhattacharya and Upasana Chowdhury have been given the responsibility to lead the new TMC IT Cell.
Why Mamata Banerjee Restructured TMC IT Cell
The Trinamool Congress suffered a major West Bengal Election Defeat in 2026. The party won only around 80 seats and lost power. After this 2026 Election Defeat, the party leadership found serious problems in the old TMC IT Cell.
Many members did not complete their duties properly during the elections. Some members also made anti-party statements after the results. Because of these issues, Mamata Banerjee decided to restructure TMC IT Cell completely.
Mamata Banerjee’s Message in Kalighat Meeting
At the Kalighat meeting, Mamata Banerjee gave a clear message to the TMC Social Media Team. She asked everyone to forget the pain of the West Bengal Election Defeat and start preparing fresh for the future.
She said, “Leave the defeat behind. Rebuild the team. Add or remove members as needed to make it stronger.”
Abhishek Banerjee also guided the team. He told them that social media will play a very important role in the coming days. The new TMC IT Cell has been asked to stay active 24 hours and strongly reply to any anti-people decisions by the new government. They have also been told to highlight claims of vote theft and irregularities during the 2026 elections.
New Core Committee Led by Debangshu Bhattacharya and Upasana Chowdhury
Debangshu Bhattacharya and Upasana Chowdhury will now head the six-member Core Committee of TMC IT Cell. The party has given them only 24 hours to start work and improve the entire TMC Social Media Team.
Their main responsibilities include:
- Making the TMC IT Cell more active and powerful
- Improving performance on Facebook, X, and Instagram
- Countering opposition narratives quickly
- Preparing a strong digital plan for the 2029 Lok Sabha Polls
