New Delhi: Mahua Moitra on Suvendu Adhikari has sparked fresh buzz in West Bengal politics. The outspoken Trinamool Congress MP openly praised the newly sworn-in Chief Minister while taking a strong swipe at the growing number of rebels within her own party.
In a no-holds-barred statement, Mahua Moitra said, “I respect Suvendu-da. I have a very good relationship with him. We don’t speak now that he has moved to another party, but the relationship remains good. Back when we were in the same party, we shared a very good bond.”
She went further, asserting that Suvendu Adhikari is far better than the “traitors” currently trying to destabilize the Trinamool Congress after the party’s recent electoral setback. Moitra drew a clear line between Suvendu’s principled exit and the current wave of opportunistic dissidents.
Sharp Attack on Rebel Leaders
A soap-opera-like drama is unfolding inside Trinamool, according to Moitra. She mockingly titled it: “Kyunki MP Bhi Kabhi Gaddar The” (Because an MP was once a traitor).
She questioned the rebels directly: “Abhishek didn’t become General Secretary just yesterday. You became Trinamool Congress MPs with full awareness. Why didn’t you join the BJP or Congress or CPIM earlier? I know Abhishek Banerjee is the party’s General Secretary, yet I remain here.”
Moitra highlighted Suvendu Adhikari’s honesty in leaving the party. “Suvendu was unwilling to accept Abhishek’s leadership. He believed he should be number two after Mamata Banerjee. He made his stand clear, left in 2020, fought the 2021 polls, defeated ‘Didi’, and after five years in opposition, has now become Chief Minister. He worked with integrity,” she added.
“Tell Them to Resign”
Praising the Chief Minister again, Mahua Moitra on Suvendu Adhikari said the current rebels should learn from him and resign instead of creating factions. Separate groups led by leaders like Ritabrata Banerjee in the Assembly and Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar in the Lok Sabha are already showing willingness to align with the NDA.
Political observers see Moitra’s statement as a strong show of loyalty to the Trinamool high command while drawing a sharp contrast with those jumping ship for personal gains.
This development comes at a critical time as West Bengal adjusts to the new political reality under Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari. Moitra’s remarks have once again positioned her as one of the most candid voices in Indian politics today.
